The Korea Food and Drug Administration said the agency will monitor agricultural and forestry imports from Japan for radioactivity in the wake of meltdown caused by a massive earthquake to the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant, a spokesman said Monday.
Only agricultural and forestry imports from the former Soviet Union have been checked for radioactivity so far but starting Tuesday imports from Japan are checked as well.
Korea imported 109,363 kg of agricultural and forestry goods worth US$195,041 from Japan in 2010, mostly melons and pumpkins.
