The son of former North Korean foreign minister Paek Nam-sun, who died in 2007, has been appointed president of the North's Central Bank, it has emerged.
The official KCNA news agency described Paek Ryong-chon (49), as "president of the Central Bank" on a list of participants in a national meeting of commercial workers in Pyongyang on Monday.
Paek senior was foreign minister from 1998 to 2007. Paek junior attended the first inter-Korean prime ministers meeting and a session of the Joint Committee for Inter-Korean Economic Cooperation in Seoul in December 2007. He visited South Korea again in 2002 and 2006.
