Flagship Airlines Beefing Up with New Planes

Korea’s two flagship airlines are expanding their fleets this year to meet growing demand for travel and replace aging aircraft.

Korean Air has made the largest purchase of 18 planes for 2011. Among the aircraft it will receive this year are five Airbus A380 passenger planes and two Boeing freighters, with dozens more to follow over the next five years.

Asiana Airlines said it will buy three Airbus passenger planes this year, as well as six A380s between 2014 and 2017 and 30 A350s between 2016 and 2022.
