40 Industrial Espionage Cases Reported Last Year

    Forty cases of industrial spying were reported in the country in 2010, the National Police Agency said Tuesday.

    According to the agency's foreign affairs bureau, 11 people involved in six of the 40 cases were sentenced to prison on charges of industrial espionage, leaking of trade secrets and breach of trust.

    The total damage claimed by the victimized businesses was estimated at W9.2 trillion (US$1=W1,128).

    Many of the cases were associated with IT. Among the nine cases which were international in scope, seven pertained to China and two concerned India.
