The government on Thursday unveiled ambitious plans to transform the base of the U.S. Forces Korea in the heart of Seoul into a park. The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs said the Yongsan park will be built on 2.43 million sq.m of land and include a forest, lake, concert hall, walking path and basketball court.
The headquarters of the UN Forces, the USFK's Camp Kim and Transport Motor Pool will be replaced with high-rise buildings. The park is to partly open to the public in 2015, and on completion in 2025 will be connected to Mt. Nam and the Han River banks to form one large green space.
