U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg will arrive in Seoul on Wednesday as part of a tour of Asia and Africa.
During his two-day visit here Steinberg will brief Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan and other senior officials on last week's summit between the U.S. and Chinese presidents.
He will then travel to Tokyo and Beijing to further discuss regional security issues and the recent developments on the Korean Peninsula.
The trip comes after South Korea agreed to hold high-level military talks with North Korea on Thursday.
