Korean girl groups Girls' Generation and Kara are in a fierce competition for the top position in Japan's music charts.
According to the latest sales charts released by Japan's Tower Records on Friday, Girls' Generation's album "Run Devil Run" is leading the K-Pop chart for 2010.
The group have been enjoying remarkable success in their debut year in Japan, with each album becoming an instant hit. "Genie" has sold 112,724 copies so far, "Gee" 124,978, "Hoot" 18,232, and DVD "New Beginning of Girls' Generation" 81,034.
But Kara are going head to head, outselling Girls' Generation in November and their compilation "Kara Best 2007-2010" taking second place in the full-year chart.
Kara's album "Mister" has sold 96,463 copies in Japan so far this year, "Jumping" 85,506, the "Best" compilation 113,272, and "Girl's Talk," their first Japanese studio album, 142,596.
Meanwhile, Girls' Generation will release a Japanese version of "Hoot" on Dec. 22.
