A South Korean court has confirmed that four North Koreans are indeed the children of a South Korean man, meaning they could have a stronger claim to an inheritance of more than US$8 million.
The inter-Korean paternity suit, a first for the divided countries, was filed on behalf of the North Koreans in February by a South Korean citizen who frequently visits the North for relief work.
Through a DNA test, the Seoul Family Court found that the four North Koreans are the children of a man who came South during the Korean War and had four more children here with a new wife.
Court proceedings on the inheritance had been put on hold to await the results of the paternity suit.
