The first Korean language school in the Middle East opened recently at Zayed University in the UAE, offering classes three times a week.
The King Sejong Institute at the university is co-run by Korea's Cultural Ministry and Chungnam National University.
Christopher Brown, the dean of international studies at Zayed University, says there is an increasing demand from students to learn Korean, as popular Korean TV series and movies have hiked local interest in the culture and language.
In a survey conducted at the university last year, Korean ranked second after French as the foreign language students wanted to learn the most.
