A growing number of Koreans are seeking help from psychiatrists to relieve stress.
According to an evaluation of 470 psychiatric clinics by the Health Insurance Review Agency released on Wednesday, the amount of money spent on mental treatment jumped nearly 25 percent between 2007 and 2009.
Some W1.7 trillion was spent on mental health services last year, up from W1.3 trillion in 2007 (US$1=W1,111).
The report found that around 1,700 psychiatrists each have an average of 47 regular patients, with some clinics seeing up to 311 patients.
The report is aimed at helping patients select the right medical institute as well as improving the overall quality of psychiatric facilities in the country, the agency said.
