Nearly Two Thirds of Koreans Using Social Networking Websites

      More than three out of every five Koreans use online social networking services such as blogs, Twitter and Facebook, a survey shows.

      In the survey released Wednesday by the Korea Communications Commission and the National Internet Development Agency, 65.7 percent of respondents said they visit such sites. Among people in their 20s, the figure jumped to 89 percent. Some 72,658 people were surveyed nationwide from May 1 to July 15.

      The survey also revealed that 82.5 percent access the Internet more than once a day, spending an average of 2.1 hours. Some 98.5 percent visit social networking sites from home, and 42.8 percent at work.

      Asked the purpose of using such services, 91.6 percent cited searching for information, 89.1 percent a pastime activity, and 88.4 percent communication.

      Meanwhile, some 64.3 percent of Internet users shop online.
