Just in time for Chuseok or Korean Thanksgiving, Bukchon Hanok Village is holding a gift fair from Friday to Wednesday at Bukchon Traditional Culture Center in Gyedong, Jongno-gu. It will feature high-quality handmade items by some 40 artisans and eight guilds at the village.
Among the unique items for sale are silk scarves (W80,000-100,000), a shoe horn made of mother-of-pearl (W60,000), a ponytail ribbon with gold foil (W40,000), and lucky bags made from traditional patterned fabrics (W10,000-20,000). A set of lacquered plates (W100,000-120,000) is a great gift idea for parents as it represents good health and longevity.
The culture center will also hold a special event for making traditional alcohol on Saturday in celebration of the holidays. For more information, visit the village's website at bukchon.seoul.go.kr or call the Bukchon store at (02) 747-0423.
