Samsung Unveils Next-Gen Dual-Core Mobile Processor

Samsung Electronics on Tuesday announced plans to introduce semiconductor chips that will dramatically boost the performance of mobile devices and install them in smartphones and tablet PCs from the first half of next year.

At the Samsung Mobile Solution forum held in Taipei, Taiwan, the company unveiled its major strategic items, including a 1 GHz dual-core mobile application processor chip. The chip can double Internet speed and boost game processing by fivefold.

Samsung also revealed its new strategy for the mobile semiconductor industry, aiming to maintain its lead in the global market with high-performance chips that consume less energy.

"There has been a huge leap in demand for high-functioning, low-energy chips as the introduction of smartphones and tablet PCs spurs innovation in the mobile environment," said Kwon Oh-hyun, president of Samsung's semiconductor business.
