Kooksoondang Makgeolli Wins Global Food Industry Award

      Kooksoondang's draft makgeolli Wookooksaeng has won a Global Food Industry Award, the domestic brewery announced on Thursday.

      The traditional rice wine is the only Korean product to receive the award this year from the International Union of Food Science and Technology, an organization of food production institutes and societies from 78 countries.

      IUFoST made this year's selections at the 15th World Congress held in Cape Town, South Africa from Sunday to Thursday.

      A jury of nine experts praised the fermentation control technology used to produce the makgeolli as well as the drink's health benefits and sensory quality, Kooksoondang said.

      This year's congress selected winners in the categories of product and/or process innovation, package innovation, and communicating science-related knowledge to consumers. Wookooksaeng won in the first category.
