China's top nuclear envoy Wu Dawei visits South Korea on Thursday to discuss the resumption of six-party talks about North Korea's nuclear program, the Foreign Ministry said Wednesday. He will be accompanied by five or six Chinese representatives to the six-way nuclear talks, including his deputy Yang Houlan.

Wu will brief South Korea about the results of his three-day visit to North Korea from Aug. 16 to 18 and is expected to ask Seoul to help bring about the resumption of the six-party talks.

Immediately after Wu returned home last week, North Korea said it "completely agreed" with China about the resumption of the nuclear talks. Wu also briefed a visiting delegation of Japanese lawmakers about a Chinese-led three-step initiative to reopen the talks, which would see bilateral talks between the North and the U.S., followed by closed-door preliminary discussions and formal open talks among all parties.
