Video footage of a North Korean woman singing the South Korean song "Maze of Love" with rewritten lyrics hailing and praising leader Kim Jong-il was released by Daily NK on Monday.
The woman, apparently the manager of the cafeteria at Pyongyang Moran Exhibition Hall, accompanies herself on the guitar. The video was shot by a Chinese tourist early this year.
"Maze of Love," sung by Choi Jin-hee and a hit in the 80s, is one of Kim's favorite songs. The fact that a South Korean song is sung with changed lyrics reflects the extent to which the South Korean pop culture craze has penetrated into the communist country, the paper said, and a lot of South Korean songs are being played in restaurants in Pyongyang.
But just in case of sudden inspections, North Koreans sing them by changing lyrics to adulation of their leader.
