Carla Bruni Makes Screen Debut

French First Lady Carla Bruni, who is a former model and singer, recently made her acting debut with a cameo appearance in "Midnight in Paris," a new film by Woody Allen.

Bruni appeared at a shopping district in the center of Paris on Tuesday to shoot a scene with Hollywood star Owen Wilson against the backdrop of small grocery store.

Streets were blocked off and security guards helped to hold back the crowds, although several onlookers managed to break through the barricades and snap pictures with their cellphones.

Bruni plays a museum curator in the romantic comedy about an American couple vacationing in Paris. Allen, who also wrote the film's screenplay, offered Bruni the role last year during a visit with her and her husband, President Nicolas Sarkozy, at their official residence in Paris, the Élysée Palace.
