Samsung Denies Apple's Claims of Smartphone Trouble

Samsung Electronics has dismissed claims by Apple that all smartphones have reception problems when held in a certain way after initial enthusiasm for the new iPhone 4 flagged due to reports of antenna trouble.

Samsung said Tuesday it has had no complaints from customers about the reception of its own Omnia 2 smartphones. "Based on years of experience of designing high-quality phones, Samsung mobile phones employ an internal antenna design technology that optimizes reception quality for any type of hand-grip use," Samsung said in a statement.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs at a press conference on Friday berated reporters for reporting the iPhone's problems and showed footage depicting rival smartphones made by Samsung Electronics, Research In Motion, HTC and Motorola having similar reception trouble.

HTC and Research In Motion issued prompt denials. Reuters news agency said Samsung Electronics may have been reluctant to fight back immediately since Apple is a key client for its memory chips even though the two compete in the smartphone market.
