Patent Troll Sues Smartphone Makers

      July 12, 2010 12:19

U.S. "patent troll" NPT is suing major smartphone makers, filing a patent infringement lawsuit Thursday in a Virginia district court against Apple, Google, Microsoft, Motorola, HTC and LG Electronics for wireless e-mail technology it bought up.

The firm added it is "always open to talks to reasonable licensing terms," agencies reported.

In 2006, NTP won a $612.5 million in a settlement over e-mail technology from Research In Motion, maker of the BlackBerry smartphone. A patent troll is a company that has no business other than buying up patents and trying to make money for them.
