Oh Se-hoon of the ruling Grand National Party was re-elected as Seoul mayor on Thursday, the first incumbent to be elected for the second time.

Oh won 48.83 percent or 2,086,127 votes, a mere 26,412 votes or 0.6 points ahead of Democratic Party challenger Han Myeong-sook.

In surveys before the elections, Oh outperformed Han by safe margins. But exit polls by three major broadcasters showed Oh edging out Han by a mere 0.2 percentage points and later he even trailed her.

Han outperformed Oh at some time during vote count but she failed to pull a surprise win.
