Seven out of 10 office workers do not even walk a single kilometer a day. A survey of 1,450 office workers by Business on Communication showed that 67 percent of respondents walk less than 1 km per day, and 22 percent walking less than 2 km. Only a handful of people walked more than 2 km, with 6 percent coming in under 3 km and 5 percent over 3 km.
Most respondents walk during their commute with 67 percent, while 18 percent said they walk after leaving work. Twelve percent said they use their lunch break to take a walk, and 1 percent said they walk before going to work.
Among those who did little walking, many cited lack of time as work requires them to sit in front of desk all the time. Other reasons were cold weather, and the time taken up by driving. About half of the respondents, or 45 percent, said they do no exercise at all, followed by walking (37 percent), cycling, swimming or jogging (14 percent), and football or golf (2 percent).
