The body of Senior Chief Petty Officer Nam Ki-hoon, first to be found among 46 missing sailors on the sunken corvette Cheonan, was returned to the 2nd Naval Fleet Command in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, on Sunday morning.
But the families of the missing soldiers on Saturday said they will not discuss funeral procedures until all 46 missing soldiers return. All recovered bodies will be laid out at 2nd Naval Fleet Command for the time being. The families want to hold a collective funeral instead of individual ones.
The military prepared two blocks of temporary buildings at the request of the families of the missing sailors to lay out the discovered bodies. Nam's body arrived at command by helicopter and his body was laid out after a 30-minute examination in the presence of the family and military officers. The body is being stored at a temperature of 2 degrees Celsius. A staffer at Soonchunhyang University Hospital said for long-term preservation it will have to be frozen after a week.
