New regulations passed in a Cabinet meeting Tuesday increase subsidies for medical costs related to pregnancy and delivery from the current W200,000 to W300,000 (US$1=W1,139), the Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs announced.
The regulations, which aim to lessen the burden for pregnant women and boost Korea's record-low birthrate, kick in on April 1.
They take the form of an amended enforcement ordinance of the relevant law, which does not need parliamentary approval.
