The UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination has urged the Japanese government to ensure there is no racial discrimination against Korean schools in Japan.
Japan's Kyodo News reports the watchdog condemned Japan's exclusion of Korean schools from the government's tuition fee waiver program set to be applied to all Japanese public high schools.
The UN Committee is expected to issue a recommendation for improvement to Japan on Monday calling for a halt on all forms of racial discrimination.
Although the recommendation will not be legally binding, Japan as a signatory of the committee will be required to submit a biennial report on any improvements made.
