Brian Orser, the coach of Olympic figure skating champion Kim Yu-na, will be named an honorary citizen of Seoul.
"In recognition of Orser's contribution to the development of sports in Korea by coaching Kim to the Olympic gold, we have decided to name him an honorary citizen," the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced.
Orser will be awarded a certificate of honorary citizenship when he and Kim come to Korea on April 14 for the Festa on Ice show at Olympic Park's Gymnastics Stadium.
Honorary citizens are invited to major events hosted by the city and entitled to free entry to museums and parks operated by the city such as Seoul Grand Park and the Seoul Museum of History.
There are currently 607 honorary Seoul citizens from 90 countries, with Orser to be the 608th. Other sports honorees include Korean-Japanese professional wrestler Rikidozan, football coach Guus Hiddink and NFL football star Hines Ward.
