Rapper and TV show host Kim Jin-pyo is a professional car racer now, signing a contract with GM Daewoo Racing Team on Thursday at GM Daewoo headquarters in Incheon.

Kim is the first entertainer in Korea to become a professional car racer. Only about a dozen racers have salary deals with professional racing teams in Korea, and Kim is reported to have one of the top salaries among them.

Starting his career with the Nexen R-Stars celebrities race in 2006, Kim swept the amateur racing competitions and became a champion in the Super 1,600 cc Division of the CJ Super Race Championship, the only professional race car competition in Korea, in 2008.

"I think this great opportunity came thanks to the systematic training I received at Nexen R-Stars under coach Lee Se-chang. I am sincerely grateful to Lee's thoughtful consideration, and I'm going to try my best as a professional racer for GM Daewoo from now on," Kim said.

Kim will compete in the Super 2,000 cc Division with the Lacetti Premier Diesel model in April.
