Hanjin Group chairman Cho Yang-ho was appointed the first East Asian ambassador of the Peace and Sport Foundation at an event in Vancouver, Hanjin subsidiary Korean Air announced on Wednesday.

The Peace and Sport Foundation is an international non-profit organization that aims to promote world peace through sports. It was founded in 2007 by Joel Bouzou, the current General Secretary of the Modern Pentathlon International Union and an Olympic medal-winning pentathlete.

The foundation has nine active ambassadors, five of whom are members of the International Olympic Committee, including King Albert II of Monaco.

Cho is president of the Korea Table Tennis Association and vice president of the Asia Table Tennis Union. He was selected for the ambassadorship for his contributions to promoting world peace through the sport.
