Snow 'Won't Hamper Lunar New Year Travelers'

Snow will fall in Seoul and the central part of the country on Friday, a day before Lunar New Year's Day holidays (Feb. 13-15) begin, but not heavily enough to disrupt hometown trip, the Korea Meteorological Administration said Thursday.

Weather forecasters predict that about 1 cm of snow will fall in Seoul and vicinity early Friday afternoon but stop in the late afternoon. From Saturday morning, when most homebound travelers will hit the road, the entire country, except the eastern part of Gangwon Province, will generally see cloudy or sunny weather, though drivers may have to slow down on some icy roads.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs predicted traffic will likely be heaviest on Saturday morning and on the afternoon of Lunar New Year's Day, Sunday, when most drivers head back to the Seoul area.
