China Erects New Digital-Age Great Wall

China has created a digital-age Great Wall along its 22,000 km border, with thousands of surveillance cameras linked by fiberoptic cables to dozens of control centers so that the military officials can monitor activities along the frontiers.

The Chinese People's Liberation Army spent 4.7 billion yuan (around W790 billion) over the last six years to develop the system.

Hong Kong's South China Morning Post on Saturday said the final border post to have the system installed was in the Tibet border county of Medog at the end of last year.

The newspaper said the army built fences along 7,000 km of borders with 12 countries, except India and Bhutan, and set up at least 3,000 border markers and watchtowers.
