Korean Icebreaker Succeeds in Antarctic Mission

Korea's first icebreaker, dubbed the Araon, successfully navigated through frozen waters in Antarctica as part of a broader mission to explore the continent.

The vessel is also examining candidate sites for a second Korean research station on the frozen continent.

Araon navigated through 500 m of ice 1.2 m in thickness in Cape Burks on the western part of Antarctica.
