Another Japanese car brand will arrive in Korea soon. Fuji Heavy Industries' automobile brand Subaru will hit the local market in late April.
"We delayed entering the Korean market due to the market dominance of Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors," Fuji Heavy Industries executive vice president Masatsugu Nagato said in a press interview Thursday. "But with the imported car market expanding in Korea, we believe there is an opportunity for Subaru." The company aims to sell 600 cars this year and then gradually increase sales.
"Subarus are safe and stable because they have low-lying cylinders, making their center of gravity low. And our four-wheel-drive models are suitable for Korea's mountainous terrain," Nagato said.

The company will start with three models: the Legacy mid-size sedan (2.5L, 3.6L), the Outback crossover (2.5L, 3.6L), and the Forester four-wheel-drive compact SUV (2.5L). The line-up will put Subaru in direct competition with other Japanese carmakers selling similar models, including Toyota, Honda and Nissan.
