Figure skating champion Kim Yu-na had to settle for second best this time after missing the top spot for the short program at the International Skating Union's Grand Prix Final in Tokyo on Friday.

Amid high expectations, the 19-year-old failed to complete a triple flip jump, coming out of the competition with a total score of 65.64, nearly 11 points less than her personal short program record of 76.28 set during last month's 5th Grand Prix.

Japan's Miki Ando finished first with 66.20, and Russian Alena Leonova placed third.

The ladies' free style program is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
