Terrestrial broadcaster KBS has issued new guidelines for materials and language for entertainment programs after controversy over some celebrities' use of robust language on TV.
The guidelines announced Tuesday prohibit performers from excessive personal attacks or disparaging each other, and producers from inserting vulgar or slang words as subtitles in programs to highlight them.
Based on decisions of the Korea Communications Commission, the KBS Program Review Department and the KBS entertainment production department, performers who have caused problems more than three times for their habitual use of foul or vulgar language will be suspended.
The guidelines also advise performers to refrain from detailed descriptions of specific body parts, addressing embarrassing or sensitive topics, or engaging in excessively private talks among themselves.
