LG to Outsource All Computer Manufacturing

      November 30, 2009 10:42

LG Electronics will stop producing personal computers -- desktops and notebooks alike -- and instead outsource them.

The company announced Sunday that it will shut down laptop production at its plant in Kunshan, China. It has already relied on contract suppliers for some of its laptop sales, while all desktop computers have been outsourced.

The cessation of the production at the Chinese plant will effectively mean the end of PC manufacturing at LG.

LG said it plans to "focus on design, research and development of PCs while outsourcing production."
