Korea's 1st Subsea Cable Factory Opens

LS Cable on Thursday opened Korea's first subsea cable plant in Donghae, Gangwon Province. Subsea cables are buried under the seabed about 100 m beneath the surface to transmit electrical power and communications to islands off the mainland. Only three or four firms in the world mass-produce them.

LS Cable began construction in the Songjeong Industrial Complex near Donghae Port with a total investment of W180 billion (US$1=W1,157) in April last year.
