Number of Korean Students in U.S. Universities Hits Record High

The number of Koreans studying at universities in the U.S. reached a record high of 75,000 for the 2008-2009 academic year.

The Institute of International Education in the U.S. reports the number of Korean students enrolled in about 3,000 colleges in the country increased by 9 percent from the previous academic year.

The figure accounts for more than 11 percent of the total number of international students in the U.S., which is the third largest group. India topped the list with over 100,000 students followed closely by China.

The total number of foreign nationals studying at American universities is roughly 670,000, up 8 percent from the 2007-2008 academic year.
