New Dinosaur Species Found

In Johannesburg, South Africa, paleontologist Adam Yeats announced the discovery of a new dinosaur species known as Aardonyx, or "Earth Claw." It could offer fresh insight into the evolution of the Sauropod species that dominated the Jurassic period.

The bone structure of the 7 m long dinosaur suggests that it may have been a baby, and this helped paleontologists revise their picture of how gigantic dinosaurs first got going. The cause of the species’ demise is believed to have been a drought.

The fossil was discovered by Yeats' student, Marc Blackbeard, some five years ago during an excavation project led by Yeats himself.
