GS E&C Wins Record Overseas Plant Order

GS Engineering & Construction has landed the largest overseas plant order ever won by a Korean builder. The company on Thursday said it signed a US$3.1 billion deal to build the world's largest oil refinery for Takreer, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company in the UAE. The refinery is part of the Ruwais Petrochemical Complex some 250 km west of the UAE capital city.

Construction will begin next month on the refinery, which will have a daily production capacity of 127,000 barrels when completed in January 2014. The Korean company will be responsible for the entire construction process, from design to buying materials, building, and a trial run. It expects the project to increase its annual sales by W900 billion (US$1=W1,181).

Including this latest order, GS E&C has won some W7 trillion in overseas plant orders this year, nearly double its goal of W3.8 trillion.
