A total of 6,092 imported cars were newly registered last month, up 43 percent on-year, the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association said Wednesday.
Mercedes-Benz was the top-selling imported brand with 949 units, followed by BMW with 776, Volkswagen with 755, Honda with 585, and Audi with 578.
Toyota took sixth place by selling 529 units within 10 days of launching its signature models such as the Camry and Prius in the Korean market on Oct. 20. Also on the list were Lexus (407 units), Nissan (253), Ford (243), Infiniti (197), Chrysler (193), and Peugeot (141). If Toyota and Lexus are combined, Toyota Group ranks second, trailing Mercedes by a thin margin of 13 units.
By model, the Mercedes E300 topped the list with 317 units, followed by the Volkswagen Golf 2.0 TDI with 301 and the BMW 528 with 296.
