Some 1,400 relics from the Koryo Dynasty believed to be 800 years old were pulled from a shipwreck off the coast of South Chungcheong Province, the National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage says.
The cargo includes bamboo tiles with writings showing the destinations and departure dates for the ship. Based on the information it appears that the vessel sank between the end of the year 1207 and the beginning of 1208.
This is the first time such bamboo tiles have been found. The ship was also carrying a cargo of grains and ceramics being sent by local authorities to influential officials in the capital.
