A concert of traditional Korean folk songs newly adapted and interpreted in pop opera style will be held in the Seoul Arts Centre on Feb. 24 next year. The cast of "2010 Brand Korea Concert" includes familiar singers such as tenor Park In-soo and Jang Sa-ik. But a new face will also take the stage -- 30-year-old pop opera singer Rose Jang, who will perform updated versions of folk classics like "Doraji Taryeong" and "Arirang" in English, German and French.

I plan to arrange the traditional Korean folk melodies so that foreigners will find them easy to listen to," Jang said.

The U.S.-born Jang performed in Broadway musicals until she turned to pop opera in 2005. She boasts a wide vocal range and has released two albums, "Memory" and "Summertime." Jang was named a goodwill ambassador for Korea Tourism Organization last year and also sang in a concert on the eve of the inauguration of President Lee Myung-bak.
