A Korean student in France, Lee Kang-eun, and Korean-Canadian Vanessa Lee have won a video contest by the International Olympic Committee to promote Olympic values. Their three-minute video won among 200 entrants.
The work emphasizes how sport can be an effective tool in achieving political and social cohesion by showing North and South Korean athletes marching together into the Olympic Stadium during the opening ceremony of the 2004 Athens Games, and Usain Bolt sprinting to his world record in the men's 100-m race.
Lee Kang-eun, who was invited to the 13th Olympic Congress in Copenhagen, said, "I decided to become a sports diplomat when I watched the unified Korean Olympic team when I was young." A sophomore in the Department of International Studies at Hanyang University, she is studying sports marketing as an exchange student at the University of Rennes.
