About 200 km off the northern tip of Korea's west coast northwest of Incheon sits Baengnyeong Island, a four-hour trip from the mainland.
Passenger cruises between Incheon and Baengnyeong Island were canceled around 60 times last year due to bad weather. To improve the tourism industry on the island, 3,000-ton sailing ships that can carry more people regardless of weather conditions need to be introduced.
The city of Incheon has decided to have them up and running in 2011, cutting travel time in half for double the number of people. The city government also plans to build more facilities, including golf courses and hotels to attract tourists year-round.
