Among the nation's four-year universities, Korea Polytechnic University had the highest number of graduates from September last year and February this year who landed jobs, according to a Ministry of Education, Science and Technology report. It was followed by Sogang University and Korea University's Anam campus.
According to the report posted to a university information website (www.academyinfo.go.kr) on Thursday, out of 365 universities with over 3,000 graduates, including junior colleges, Korea University sent the highest number of graduates to the workforce. Next were Sungkyungkwan University, Seoul National University of Technology, Yonsei University, Hanyang University, Inha University, and Seoul National University.
"Technical universities have the best track records in terms of graduates finding jobs after finishing their studies, the report shows." Prof. Yang Hae-jeong of Korea Polytechnic University said this is because technical universities offer more practical studies tailored to industry needs and their students are mostly science engineering majors.
Meanwhile, only 48 percent of Seoul National University graduates found jobs, down from 53 percent last year. An official at the education ministry said, "Many SNU graduates are studying for bar exams or preparing to study abroad. Otherwise, they have high expectations of landing jobs."
