The price of products used to stem the spread of H1N1 flu have been soaring, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance said Sunday.
According to the ministry, prices for items such as thermometers, face masks, flu vaccines, and hand sterilizers have jumped as much as four-fold in the past month.
The surge is partly due to growing demand and insufficient supply as products fly off the shelves amid the H1N1 scare. But experts say distributors are also driving prices up.
They also warn that prices may shoot up even higher if the number of infections grows with the arrival of cooler weather, further aggravating public fears.
A Strategy and Finance Ministry official said the ministry will work together with the Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs to evaluate the situation and take measures if needed.
