Samsung is the most famous Korean brand among Chinese consumers, according to the Korea International Trade Association on Sunday. The KITA conducted a survey of the image of Korean goods among 3,667 consumers in 12 major Chinese cities including Beijing and Shanghai in August.
Some 2,782 or 31 percent of respondents named Samsung as the best-known Korean brand in China. It was followed by LG (23 percent) and Hyundai (13 percent).
Korean cosmetics such as Laneige, TheFaceShop and Mamonde enjoy relatively high recognition there.
Chinese consumers cited design as the strongest point of Korean goods. Asked to rank competitive elements of Korean products on a scale of one to five, design came top with 3.81 points, followed by quality (3.69 points) and brand value (3.65 points).
Some 49.6 percent of respondents said Korean goods had a good image, compared to 19.7 percent who said it was bad. The older the respondents and the higher their education, the better their image of Korean goods.
KITA vice chairman Oh Young-ho urged action, saying a negative image of Korea "is spreading among the younger generation born since the 1980s."
