The number of subscribers to the internet protocol television (IPTV) service is increasing rapidly, recently surpassing 800,000 households.
The Korea Communications Commission said Tuesday that the combined number of IPTV subscribers by KT, LG Dacom and SK Broadband totaled 806,184 households as of Monday. The figure was up over 5,000 households only a day after it topped the 800,000 mark on Sunday with 800,419.
The current growth is almost double the 2,000 daily new subscriptions recorded in the first half. KT had the most subscribers at 390,455 households, followed by LG Dacom with 227,291 and SK Broadband with 188,438.
Even at the present rate of growth the IPTV, however, service providers are unlikely to reach their target of two million households by the end of this year. Given the expected monthly new subscriptions of 150,000 households, they will only gain 500,000-550,000 more subscribers in the remaining three months of the year.
