Women cry an average of 1.3 years during their lifetime, according to a survey of 3,000 women conducted by the BabyWebsite, a U.K. baby and parenting website.
Infants cry an average of three hours a day because it is the only means of communication for them. Between the age of one and three, crying time is reduced to two hours and five minutes per day. They cry when they fall, feel sleepy or get scolded. During their teens, girls cry an average of two hours and 13 minutes per week, mostly after arguments with friends, being criticized, being grounded by parents or due to hormones.
But time spent crying no longer changes with age. Both women aged between 19 and 25 and those aged 26 or more cried two hours and 14 minutes per week. The former group said they cry mainly when they watch a good movie or lose a loved one, while the latter cry when they are extremely tired, part with a lover, or hear about something bad that happened to someone else.
