The BMW 528i was the best-selling imported car in Korea in the first half of this year with over 1,600 units sold, the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association said Wednesday. Experts attribute the car's popularity to its under-W70 million price, which is low compared to other German premium sedans (US$1=W1,279).
The next most popular import was the Lexus ES350, which boasts the typical Japanese qualities of a quiet ride and subtle styling. The Audi A4 2.0 Quattro, Mercedes-Benz C200, and Volkswagen Passat 2.0 TDi rounded out the top five. The popularity of these German compact sedans was ascribed to the growing number of Korean drivers looking for luxurious, sturdy, yet modestly-sized vehicles.
