Heavy rains hit the central portion of Korea on Sunday killing at least three people, injuring 23 and leaving two missing. Most of the casualties were caused by car accidents whereas the two missing, including a nine-year-old girl, were swept away by strong currents.
Hundreds of houses were damaged in downpours in Gyeonggi Province and thousands of hectares of farmland have been flooded. About 500 people were forced to abandon their homes, while nearly 800 people living in islands off the west coast have been isolated. The Korea Meteorological Administration predicts that the heavy rainfall throughout the country will continue until Wednesday.
